Threshing Floor, an Alternative Pop band from Northern California, has a sound filled with hook-laden melodies and moody arrangements. The band consists of Steve Padilla, his wife Sandi Padilla, and Jill Hannon on Drums. They have recently released a new CD “Happy Goodbyes” which has been featured on local Fox affiliate Fox40 because a song from the CD “What Must I Do?” place 14th out of 538 in the faith-based category on American Idol Underground.
Steve is an accomplished keyboardist/producer and on staff as a worship leader at Bayside of Central Roseville Church. Steve has played for numerous Christian artists including playing keyboards on the 2005 Vertical Music national release “Lincoln Brewster, All to You… Live” distributed by Integrity Music. Sandi’s involvement in the music industry ranges from session work in recording studios to artist management. Known for her versatility and range as a singer she has performed live with Earth, Wind and Fire, Patty Cabrera, Aaron Spiro and most recently Darlene Zschech. Together, Threshing Floor’s first single “Twisted and Broken” debuted to great reviews including an invitation to Nashville for the 1993 GMA Gospel Music Association’s New Artist Showcase.
In the mid-nineties Threshing Floor invaded the serene Sacramento Christian music scene with eighties techno keys, arena rock U2 style guitar riffs, funky drums loops, and soul searching lyrics that cry out in total desperation (and sometimes frustration) to God. The good folks of Sacramento did not seem prepared for such in your face style Christian music, so they took their message to the average Joe and began playing in bars.
It wasn’t long before they built a large following and began headlining in several major clubs in Sacramento including opening for touring acts passing through. This lead to even greater acceptance within the Sacramento music scene when featured on several radio stations and guest appearances on the morning show at KWOD 106.5, the local commercial alternative station. Since that time they have performed with a number of major recording artist, placed 14th on American Idol Underground, and released several more CDs.
Threshing Floor’s mission is that their music would reach people that don’t relate to the perfect world that some CCM music artists manufacture today. “Our music is for the losers,” says Steve. “The rejected, the lost, the ones that get told, ‘you don’t make the cut’, because that is me – a loser. I was never good enough to be a ‘rock star’ so I gave up and wrote songs from my heart. That’s when I found my real calling. I think that our songs can speak to those that are tired of trying to perform their way through the faith. They are the ones that realize being a follower of Christ is not a popularity contest. It is an identity, a DNA code that can never be erased or altered. We don’t need anyone’s approval because we already have the only approval that really matters – God’s. That is why we write music.”
For 2006 Threshing Floor plans to release two CDs. The first, "Happy Goodbyes", is now out on the new indie label "Speedy Tweety Records." |
